Ministry outside the ministry

About 4 days ago, on Wednesday, my team and I were the float team.  This  means that if our contact, Gracie, is going to town or has a ministry she is doing outside, we will go with her.  My team and I had the opportunity to go to 2 schools with her and talk to middle and high school students about staying away from teen pregnancies, and how to avoid domestic violence and human trafficking.  We left our ministry site by 6 a.m. and all piled into the back of a truck.  We drove for  about an hour until we were at the school.  Gracie did an awesome presentation, while we helped with skits and passed out things.  We did 2 presentations at the first school.  The first group was awesome!  The kids were very interactive and loved the skits that we were doing.  The second group was our challenge.  We tried everything to keep their attention.  We dramatized the skits, we did a ton more of interaction, but being high school kids, they didn't want to listen.  However, when we left we found one girl sitting in a class room crying.  Gracie said that whenever she talks to kids about domestic violence and sexual assault, it's very typical to find kids who have already been victims.

We then went to lunch at a police officer and wife's house.  Turns out this guy had a humongous pile of corn in his house.  We left with about 60 ears of corn. We were able to have lunch (turkey and cheese sandwiches.  Can't even begin to explain how amazing it was having American food.)  We then all went to use the restroom, and found out that they had running water, and plumbing!  We were so excited to actually flush a toilet.  We then went to the elementary school.  We were waiting for the kids to come back to school, so Gracie decided to give us a tour of the village we were in.  We walked by a house that wasn't any bigger than an average sized kitchen.  One woman lived here and said that rent was only 20 dollars a month.  We then walked down to the river to find a woman washing dishes and her son in the same river.  We then went back to the school and gave the presentation to the elementary school kids, and pretty much fell in love with them.  Obviously we stood out pretty well to them, so we stayed for a little bit and played with them.  When we started leaving, a lady stopped us telling us that she made corn for us.  Unfortunately we had to go, so we took the corn before she could make it.
We were able to experience real Honduras.  Not when you walk down the street and every guy calls out to you as "I love you baby" and they just see you as a walking passport to the states.  We were able to experience real Honduras and the hospitality the people had for us.  We were able to love on people and see how they lived so simply.  These next 2 weeks we will be finishing up construction at Gracie's and continuing to love on the people here and minister to them.  Please continue to pray for us as we continue this journey out here and continue in our new lives.
