God thinks I’m a superhero

Picture this. You’re standing on an incredibly tall building, feeling the gentle wind blowing against you. Every fear that you have of heights is gone. You begin to feel adrenaline pumping through you. Instinctively, you reach your hand out, and see a sticky web shoot from your wrist. You watch the web attach to a nearby building and you grab it with both hands. You look down, feeling the adrenaline pumping through your veins, and at last you take the plunge jumping off the building, swinging down. Almost, methodically, like you have done this your whole life, you let go of the web with the other hand and shoot another sticky, yet strong web from your opposite wrist. You find yourself swinging across a city knowing that you are going somewhere where people need you. This was a dream that the Lord gave me the other night. When I woke up, I can’t even begin to tell you how happy and excited I was, and still am, as I write about it!
For those of you who may not know, Spider-Man is my favorite super hero. I can’t count how many times I have seen the movies or read the comics, and even the excitement I get whenever I see something red and blue in a store is immeasurable.

Before I went to sleep and dreamt this incredible dream, I was able to spend some sweet time with the Lord. He was able to speak and pour His words of life into me. Right before I fell asleep, I asked Him a question that I have asked Him continuously. “Jesus, what do you thinkof me?” As I began to fall asleep I saw myself sitting on a mountain top with a cape flowing behind me and suddenly heard Him whisper, “superhero”. Next thing I know, I’m swinging from buildings in a Spider-Man costume.

Parent’s know their child inside and out. They know what they love in life and what brings them joy, and some even join them in what brings them delight in this world. For example, if a child loves trains, his parent will play trains with them. If their daughter loves tea parties, you can bet that her parents will be at each tea party that little girl hosts. Just as a parent takes delight in watching their child delights in the things that bring them joy, the Lord does the same. He takes delight in watching us delight in what He has given us. He will meet us wherever we’re at in life and be our Father.

The Lord is our Father; however, He is also our lover. We all have been in love at one point or another, and we all know what it takes to show someone we truly care about that we love them. We chase after them. wanting to show them how much we do love and appreciate them. We shower them with gifts and presents that delight them. We give them nicknames only we know as a way to show them our affection. Gentle words are spoken one another, and intimate moments are shared. We would do whatever we felt necessary to chase after them and let them know that we do love them. The Lord is the exact same way. Because he is our lover, He is constantly chasing after us, showering us with things that our hearts desire and delight in. He calls us out and longs to spend those intimate times with us. He gives us names that only we would know and respond to.

The Lord knows us so well. He knows us more than anyone else ever could, and He knows us even more than we could ever know ourselves. God knows how much I love Spider-Man and how much I wanted to be a superhero like him when I was little… and maybe even today. When God gave me this dream, the other night, He reminded me that sees me as a superhero. One of them was that He sees me as a superhero. He’s so proud of me for just being me and continuing to follow and seek Him. He knows how much I love caring for people, and He continues to affirm that in me. God also reminded me how much He loves me and how hard He chases after me. He is chasing so hard after me because he wants to fulfill my childhood ambition of being a superhero.
