When my squad and I were at a village this past week, we had church every night. Our pastor said that the church was about a 10 minute walk away so we all thought that it would be a nice and fun walk. None of us expected to have a blog to write after our adventure.
We first had dinner at our pastor's house, and then headed over to church. We started off on a path, and then came to realize that we had to cross a small creek. Our small creek then turned into a small river, and then it turned into an actual river. The deepest it went was about calf deep. However, when we were in church Jesus sent this place some rain! It poured so hard that it caused the river to raise…an unimaginable amount. First, it was about calf deep, so when we all went back to the river, we just thought that it would be a little higher. When the first couple of people went in, we soon found out that it wasn't calf deep, but waist deep. We all held hands with a buddy to help each other cross considering the current was pretty strong. However, when we got to the middle of the river our pastors stopped and realized that the current was way to strong for us to cross over to where we needed to be. After a few minutes of contemplating what to do, we found our pastors started to walk upstream. We had to fight the current while trying to find a safer place to cross. Now this river was a somewhat sketchy river, kind of like a river you would find the Amazon. Images of leeches, snakes, and river monsters kept crossing our minds as we kept walking upstream. We walked for about 15 minutes in the pouring rain until our pastors found a safer place for us to cross. When we finally crossed, we realized that were literally in the middle of nowhere! The group I was with didn't have a light, so we fought our way through the dark to try and find the path that we were originally on. We stumbled our way upon some barbed wire that we had to cross, and we finally found a familiar view of the village we were in! As soon as we made it back to the school we were sleeping in, Jesus let the rain fall! It rained constantly until 5:30 in the morning. Our pastors said that the land was drying up, and as God brought that village 60 missionaries, He also blessed them with a mass amount of rain. God is so good!
